Salsa party Last Saturday I was behind the bar at a salsa party held in the LutherKirche, in the Südstadt.
Often, when I mention that I was at a party in a church, I see that "doesn't compute" face. So I thought I'd post a picture.

There was a Salsa class beforehand at eight, where "newbies" could learn the basics. Then at nine the "profi" salsa crowd piled in and the party kicked off in earnest, lasting until three in the morning.
The demographic was quite "grown up", with a mix of German and international people from many lands: the Latin and African nations where obviously better represented, and I only heard a couple of English phrases over the entire evening. I had no time to chat anyway, as I was too busy making countless Caipirinha.
